    Turkish Airlines Checked Baggage Regulations

In fact, while there is just one business class, travellers in the economy class have considerably more choices.

    Excess Baggage Regulations

If you are unsure of the actual fees imposed for oversized luggage, check their website's baggage calculator. You can use this to check your flight to see how much extra weight you'll have to pay for.

Per their policy, Turkish Airlines charges $80 for every additional piece of luggage between 50lbs (23kg) and 70lbs (32kg).

Depending on whether you are a veteran or a student, you can be eligible for overage charge exemptions. Excess baggage costs may also differ based on whether a passenger is travelling on a local trip, an international flight, or connecting flights.

The cost of shipping for local and international flights differs. For further information on extra costs, you can contact the booking agent or check the luggage calculator on the website.

    Sports equipment & CPAP

If you travel with your sports equipment or CPAP, things will be a little different.

For sports equipment, there are detailed requirements for each type of gear you bring along. Overall, it will be put in the checked luggage and all of them will cost extra fees. For domestic flights, the fee will be 300 ₺ (8 €). For international flights, it will be 40 €. If your flight has a stopover, you will be charged 30 € extra.

Your equipment mustn’t exceed 32kg or else it will be separated into 02 pieces of baggage and charged separately. However, there are gears that they allow less weight per set. So make sure to read their instruction carefully before you pack. Also, remember to call the call centre beforehand to make a reservation for your equipment.

For CPAP, you don’t need to worry half as much. You can pack it however you like, whether in your carry-on or checked luggage. The only thing you need to make sure of is that it is FAA-approved. In case you need to use it during the flight, prepare your battery, as there might not be power sockets to connect with on the cabin.

    Booking and Check-in Process

You can easily book a ticket for Turkish Airlines with third parties like travel agents or platforms, but it’s best to book directly from their website or their mobile app. This way, you can minimise your chances of getting scammed for your tickets and enjoy the best price available.

    Booking Your Turkish Airlines Flight

To book a ticket on the Turkish Airlines website, fill in your desired flight information, such as destinations, dates, and kind of trip. When you press the search button, the website will offer various flights with detailed prices and itineraries for both economy and business class. There will also be a price comparison between nearby dates to utilise your budget according to your timeline.

    Check In With Turkish Airlines

For check-in, Turkish Airlines offers 04 familiar check-in methods like any other big airline which are through their website, their mobile app, kiosks at the airports or the counter with staff. Each has its own benefits. But if you are already familiar with the check-in process, we would recommend you check in online to save time.

For passengers who check in online through the Turkish Airlines web or app, depending on your flight, you can check in up to 24 hours beforehand. A huge highlight when checking in online is that every package, except for the EcoFly, will get to choose their desired seat. All you have to do is type in your reservation code and surname. The boarding pass will be sent directly to your phone.

For kiosk check-in, you can start up to 12 hours before your flight. The process is almost the same as checking in online, except you will do it at the airport kiosks. Your boarding pass, in this case, will be printed. If you travel in a group under the same reservation code, you can check in for a maximum of 8 people at the same time.

For counter check-in, you won’t have to do much, as all you need is to provide your documents to the staff. However, with this kind of checking-in, you might need to queue for a long time, and remember to check for the counter closure as it will vary based on different flights.

No matter how you choose to check in, if you have checked luggage, you will always have to drop by the counter. In case you have checked in online or at the kiosk and only bring a carry-on, you can proceed to the boarding gate immediately.

    FAQs

    1. Can I Bring 2 Carry-On Bags?

You can. However, whether it depends on your flight class. If you choose business class, you can bring along 2 carry-on bags for free. But if you choose economy class, the second bag will become checked luggage and you might be charged extra.

You do get to bring a personal item bag with a size of 40x30x15 cm and a weight maximum of 4 kg. So, if you can utilise this bag, you can surely count it as another carry-on luggage.

    1. What if my carry-on is a little overweight?

It is said that Turkish Airlines rarely checks the weight of hand luggage. So if your carry-on bag is only slightly overweight, there is a high chance that they won’t care. But if your suitcase looks bigger than a carry-on size and the flight is full, they might decide to weigh your bag unexpectedly. So choose one with a moderate size and don’t overpack it too much.

    1. How many kilos can I take with Turkish Airlines?

For the economy class, the limit weight is 23kg per bag, and for the business class, it’s 32kg. If you exceed your 23kg limitation, you will be charged extra fees. The same doesn’t apply to bags that exceed 32kg, as those will not be accepted at all. You will need to separate your 32kg bag into different pieces.
